Jimmy is a native Oregonian who moved to Molalla with his wife and children in 2006. As an active community member, he served a total of eight years on City Council, six of those as a City Councilor and two as Mayor. He has also volunteered for many projects and programs.

He started training in martial arts in 1989. He has a 2nd dan black belt in Kenpo, and a 1st dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do. In addition, he studied Wu Shu (Kung Fu) for over five years, and a hybrid of several styles including Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Kali, Muay Thai, Judo, and some Small Circle Jujitsu for another eight years.

He began teaching locally in May of 2015, focusing on practical self-defense. In June of 2019 he opened a studio at the present location. He teaches a self defense centric curriculum which draws from several styles and evolves into a more personalized expression of martial arts with each practitioner.

Jimmy believes the journey of a martial artist is a personal one which starts out with a blank canvas, the ultimate goal being the painting of a self portrait which truly expresses the individual, not the instructor. The job of an instructor is to help students realize their potential, to find their own path, and to seek their own truth.
